April Fool's Day - Are These Unusual Beers Real Or Fake?
As it’s April Fools Day we couldn’t resist looking at some of the April Fool jokes that breweries have played in the past. As we were doing this we realised that there are also a lot of strange beers that one might think is a joke, whereas in fact they are actually available to buy!
We have listed some of these below, can you guess which are real and which are fake?
Bull Testicle Beer
Rocky Mountain Oyster Stout
Wynkoop Brewing Company
On first sight you may be forgiven for thinking these are oysters, but on a closer look you will notice they are in fact bulls testicles. A meaty foreign-style stout, Rocky Mountain Oyster Stout is made with Colorado base malts, roasted barley, seven specialty malts, Styrian Goldings hops, and 25 pounds of freshly sliced and roasted bull testicles.
Smoothie Beer
Double Fruit Smoothie Sour
Drekker Brewing Company
An opaque beer, looking more like a dessert than a beer! This smoothie sour from Drekker Brewing Co is stuffed full of fruit, including pineapple, guava and passionfruit.
Helium Beer
HeliYUM
Samuel Adams
Helium beer is produced by infusing helium gas with beer. Most commercial beers infuse carbon dioxide in beers to create carbonation. By using an innovative technique, Samuel Adams, have used properties of the noble gas, helium. The caramel flavour came out with a biscuity character, which is suppressed in normal beers.
Space Beer
Ground Control
Ninkasi Brewing Company
A payload of brewer’s yeast was launched into outer space with the help of rocket scientists. After a much awaited return to Earth, the mission of creating space beer was complete. Ground Control boldly combines local and out-of-this-world ingredients. This rich, complex Imperial Stout is brewed with Oregon hazelnuts, star anise and cocoa nibs, and fermented with an Ale yeast that survived a trip to space and back.
Frozen Beer
Golden Haze Frozen Concentrate IPA
New Terrain Brewing Company
Golden Haze FCIPA has been brewed, blended and aged to get it just right at 27.2% ABV. Keep it in the freezer until ready to drink, then add ice and carbonated water to dilute it down to a drinkable 6.8% ABV.
Pizza Beer
Bud Light Seltzer - Pizza
Budweiser
Everyone knows that pizza and beer are a great combination. That is why Budweiser launched this limited edition version of Bud Light. Available in four different variations; pepperoni, extra cheese, anchovy and veggie.
World’s Strongest Beer
Snake Venom Beer
Brewmeister
This beer is not for the faint-hearted, with a 67.5% ABV. We recommend you enjoy Snake Venom in 35ml measures; that's why the beer is sold one bottle at a time and comes with a letter of authentication and explanation.
Beer Powder
Beer Powder
Sixpoint Brewery
Dehydrated beer powder that comes in 32 oz. packets is kind of genius. “With the Craft Beer shelves crowded with so many styles, we wanted to find a product that could reach people outside the beer cooler,” says Aaron Ekroth, Sixpoint’s Creative Director.
How did you do? Can you spot an April Fool?
